Help pick volunteers to enjoy day out at Wolves

Council chiefs are on the hunt for Wolverhampton's unsung volunteering heroes - to reward them with a matchday experience at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The City of Wolverhampton Council is keen to celebrate the contribution that the city's legions of volunteers make and will be inviting 6 of them to enjoy Wolves' Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday 16 March.

In order to select 6 lucky winners, the council is asking people to send in their nominations.

Deputy Managing Director Mark Taylor will be hosting the group on 16 March and said: "Thousands of people in Wolverhampton give up their time to volunteer in one way or another, and as a city we should be very grateful for their efforts.

"I'm looking forward to welcoming some very deserving volunteers to enjoy Wolves' game against Arsenal, and I would encourage people to put forward their nominations today. Please tell us who you are nominating, who they volunteer with and, most importantly, why you think they are a worthy winner."

To make a nomination, please send the name of the volunteer, the name of the organisation they volunteer for and a short summary - no more than 100 words - detailing why you think they should win.

Please also include your contact details and send your nomination(s) to: Martha Cummings, Voluntary Sector Co-ordinator, City of Wolverhampton Council, Civic Centre, St Peter's Square WV1 1SH. Alternatively you can email voluntarysector@wolverhampton.gov.uk. The closing date for entries is Friday 22 February, 2019.

The event will be one of a number of activities taking place during this year's Residents Programme to celebrate, support and promote volunteering in Wolverhampton, and to say thank you to volunteers for their input into the social fabric of the city.

Councillor Lynne Moran, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "There are around 700 voluntary and community organisations in Wolverhampton, all of which rely on volunteers to deliver their services.

"Volunteering is a brilliant way of playing a more active role in society and developing new skills and experience which benefits the individual, the organisation they volunteer for and our city as a whole."
