Last chance for parents to apply for reception class places

Parents and carers of children who are due to start school for the first time this autumn have just a week left in which to apply for their reception class place.

Some 70% of families have already completed the application process - and the rest are encouraged to do so as soon as possible because the deadline for applications is next Tuesday 15 January, 2019.

Councillor Lynne Moran, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "If they haven't already done so, parents and carers of children who are due to start school in September 2019 should set aside time now to complete their application for a school place.

"The application process is straightforward and should only take a few minutes to complete. More than two thirds of families have already completed their applications, but many haven't started. In addition, a further 150 have begun their applications but have not yet submitted them.

"This is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child's future, and you should ensure you get your applications in by next week's deadline as applying after this time could have a detrimental effect on the chance of securing a place at one of your preferred schools."

She added: "It's important to remember that even if your child is in nursery provision at either primary or junior school, you will still need to apply for a reception class place."

To apply for a school place, parents should log on to School admissions and complete the short application process. Parents and guardians will be notified of their child's allocated school place on 16 April, 2019.

Applying online through the secure website has a number of benefits. Applications can be viewed and edited online up to the closing date for applications of 15 January, 2019, while applicants will be able to access their child's school place allocation online on 16 April, 2019 rather than having to wait for it to come in the post.
